Original version
#1 South Africa

Written by South African writer and performer Gordon Haskell, member of UK band Les Fleur De Lys who also played with King Crimson. For more on Les Fleurs De Lys, see That's A Hoe Down by Lynne Randell.

Durban band The Gonks recorded the backing track for Lazy Life, produced by South African singer Billy Forrest (William Charles Boardman). After it was decided that Lazy Life did not fit The Gonks' image, Forrest went ahead with the project under the alias Quentin E. Klopjaeger, although early pressings showed Quentin E. Klopjaeger And The Gonks. Read the full story, and band history, at Garage Hangover.

Thanks to David Johnston and Chris Dunning.
