JENNIFER RYALL
Everything's Alright
(Andrew Lloyd-Webber - Tim Rice)
Australia 1972
#24 Sydney

Song from the musical Jesus Christ Superstar.

Single on Warner Brothers by Australian singer who is now lost to history, as far as I can see. Jennifer Ryall released one further single in 1973 but after that, who knows?

In September 1967 an 11-year-old Jennifer Ryall sang Walking In The Sunshine in a junior edition of Australian TV pop show Bandstand [view here] which would make her around 16 at the time of this record.

Produced by G. Wayne Thomas, New Zealand singer, songwriter and producer resident in Australia. He produced the various-artists soundtrack of the surf film Morning Of The Earth (1971). Three of his own songs appeared on the soundtrack album, including  Open Up Your Heart and Morning Of The Earth which later appeared together on a single (1972, A-side #10 Sydney #1 Brisbane #21 Perth) YouTube.

Jennifer Ryall, up there on the 2SM chart with Todd Rundgren & Leon Russell, but who was she?

Yvonne Elliman as Mary Magdalene from the original Jesus Christ Superstar album (1970), the role she would play in the 1971 Broadway production and in the 1973 film version. The album preceded any stage performance of the musical.

Elliman's single of I Don't Know How To Love Him from Jesus Christ Superstar was a minor hit (1970, re-released 1972).

NORMIE ROWE
Everything's Alright
(Simon Stavely - Stuart James - Keith Karlson - John Konrad - Nicholas Crouch)
Australia 1965
Red herring

SAME TITLE BUT NOT THE SAME SONG AS
'EVERYTHING'S ALRIGHT' BY JENNIFER RYALL.

Track on Normie Rowe's first album, It Aint Necessarily So, But It Is... Normie Rowe (July 1965). Also on a single... or was it?

See under Normie Rowe - Everything's Alright for more details and song history.

A couple of other red herrings:

• The Newbeats - Everything's Alright (John D. Loudermilk)
USA 1965 Single on Hickory by Nashville vocal trio featuring the falsetto of Larry Henley (see 'Wind Beneath My Wings').
• Billy Preston - Everything's All Right* (Billy Preston)
USA 1964 Track on That's The Way God Planned It, album by R&B singer-keyboardist (1946-2006), associate of The Beatlesplayed on Let It Be, charted solo hits in USA 1972-1974.

*Billy Preston's song title would be all right with the grammarians:
all right or alright? The spelling all right is correct: the spelling alright is wrong.
