LEROY JONES
C'mon And Swim
(Thomas Coman - Sly Stewart)
USA 1964

Single on Hit, the Nashville budget soundalike label. (If you couldn't afford The Beatles' Please Please Me you could have the Hit version by The Boll Weevils for 49 cents.) The name Leroy Jones was frequently seen on Hit singles, for example on their covers of When A Man Loves A Woman and It's A Man's, Man's, Man's World

THE LIFEGUARDS
C'mon And Swim
USA 1964

Track on C'mon And Swim, album on Philadelphia label Wyncote. The label was a budget arm of Cameo-Parkway that strayed into the budget soundalike territory of Hit (see above), for example with the The Liverpools subbing for The Beatles

I'm assuming this is the same song, although a blog post at Rock & Roll Hoo-Ha What What calls it a nearly identical song to Bobby Freeman's, which may mean it's a copycat composition.

BOBBY FREEMAN
C'mon And Swim
(Thomas Coman - Sly Stewart)
USA 1964
Original version
#5 USA

Single on San Francisco label Autumn. The B-side was C'mon And Swim - Part 2.

Co-writer is Sylvester Stewart, better known as Sly Stone of Sly And The family Stone.

Bobby Freeman (b.1940) wrote and recorded the original of Do You Wanna Dance (1958, also #5 USA), a song that is probably as well known through other versions, including those by Cliff Richard & The Shadows, Del Shannon, The Beach Boys, Bette Midler and Peter Andre.
